What is Title I?
Title I is a federally funded program designed to work with children that need an extra boost with their reading/math skills. There are two kinds of Title I Schools: Targeted Assisted Title I Schools and Schoowide Title I Schools. Friendship Learning Center is a Schoolwide Title I School. As a Schoolwide Ttile I School, we are able to recieve additional training, resources, programs and staffing to benefit all students. This means that all students are Title I students and all teachers are Title I teachers.
How is the Title I program funded?
Federal funding for our program is based on the percentage of free and reduced lunches that our families in the School District of North Fond du Lac apply for (grades K-12). Therefore, it is ESSENTIAL that our families apply for free and reduced lunch in our district even if they’re unsure if they would qualify or not.
What do Title I Services look like at FLC?
At FLC, all of our teachers are Title I teachers and all of our students are Title I students. Title I funds are used to provide professional development opportunities to our staff, employ reading/math specialists, and purchase instructional materials for classroom teachers/specialists to use to support the individual needs of all of our students.
Parent/Family Engagement
Parent/Family engagement is a crucial component of the Title I program. Title I helps parents and children develop successful habits both in school and at home. Parents have a right to be involved in planning their child’s education, so Title I teachers encourage involvement from families of children receiving our services. Working together, we can promote a successful educational experience. We have several family engagement nights planned throughout the school year. Advance notice of these nights will be sent home.
