Bessie Allen Middle School (BAMS) exists to create a nurturing, safe environment for approximately 325 students wherein they have an opportunity to reach their full academic, social, emotional, and moral potential. Serving students from grades 6 to 8, we strive to maintain a safe environment that provides equitable learning opportunities for all of our students as well as extracurricular activities to help them become responsible, productive citizens. Our actions are guided by the Oriole Way, which principles are "Be Ready, Be Respectful, Be Safe". BAMS students come from diverse ethnic, racial, linguistic, and backgrounds. With over 40 staff members, BAMS offers a wide range of classes beyond the core areas of Literacy, Math, Social Studies, and Science. These classes include PE, Health, Art, Literacy in Action, Music, Band, Choir, Introduction to Leadership, Spanish, Technology Literature, and Family Consumer Science. In addition, BAMS has many extracurricular activities such as athletics and student government. Athletic opportunities for students include: Football (grades 7/8), Boys Basketball (grades 7/8), Volleyball (grades 7/8), Wrestling Club (grades 6/7/8), Track (grades 6/7/8), and Cross Country (grades 6/7/8). Some clubs at BAMS include: Oriole Leaders (grades 7/8), Robotics, Jazz Band, Solo Ensemble, and Student Advisory Team. Students are also encouraged to create their own interest-based clubs under the supervision of an authorized adult.
