Tips for a GREAT Application
-
Read and study the application before you begin writing.
-
When possible, make the application fit the purpose of the scholarship. For example, if the scholarship is for students who intend to study in the health care field, indicate what you have done in this area – in or out of school.
-
Make sure you are clear and directly answer the questions.
-
If a question has multiple parts, be sure you provide an answer for every part.
-
Be NEAT, type your application when possible. Never use a pencil as it is difficult to read.
-
Be honest. If you have a financial hardship, indicate this. All things being equal, the student with more need is more likely to get the award. If your grades fell at some point, indicate why.
-
Do not put information on the application that is not true; you will automatically be disqualified.
-
Ask someone to proofread your application. He/she can correct errors and give you hints on how to put your best foot forward!
-
You may want to list your activities on a separate sheet and attach it to the application.
-
Clearly state your career goals.
-
Make sure your application is complete.
-
Don’t be afraid to “toot” your own horn.
-
Don’t count yourself out! You need not be a straight “A” student to earn scholarship money.
